My First Experience with a Magewappa Bento Box

March 31, 2026
弁当が変わった日。曲げわっぱを使ってみた正直な感想

Honestly, I Was Skeptical

I had heard about magewappa bento boxes before,
but I always thought, “Isn’t it just about the looks?”

The idea that a wooden lunch box could make rice taste better
sounded a bit too good to be true.

And to be honest, I also assumed it would be a hassle to maintain.

Still, I decided to give it a try.

First Impressions

The first thing that surprised me was how light it was.

It looks solid and well-crafted,
but when you actually hold it, it feels incredibly light.

There was also a subtle scent of wood.
Not overpowering, just enough to remind you it’s natural.

The texture was completely different from plastic or metal.
It felt warm and slightly soft to the touch.

At this point, my impression started to change.

Actually Using It

I didn’t do anything special.

I simply packed rice and side dishes
just like I always do.

Nothing fancy.
No special arrangement.

Just my usual lunch.

Then I took a bite.

Something Felt Different

My first reaction was, “Wait… this is different.”

The rice wasn’t soggy at all,
even after some time had passed.

But it wasn’t dry either.

It was in a perfect state.

This was honestly the most surprising part.

Why Does This Happen?

After looking into it, the reason is quite simple.

The wood absorbs excess moisture
while keeping the necessary humidity.

So the rice stays fluffy,
without becoming soggy or dry.

Interestingly, this is the same principle as a traditional Japanese rice container called an “ohitsu.”

The material itself controls moisture.

What Surprised Me

There were a few things I was worried about before using it.

But in reality:

  • It was easier to maintain than I expected
  • The smell wasn’t an issue
  • It was more practical than it looks

I had assumed it would be a high-maintenance tool,
but that wasn’t the case.

The Downsides

Of course, it’s not perfect.

  • You can’t use a microwave
  • It’s not dishwasher safe
  • It needs to be dried properly

It does require some care.

But the question is whether that care is worth it.

What I Realized

Before this,
making a bento felt like just another task.

But using a magewappa box changes that slightly.

Even with the same food,
you start to treat it more carefully.

A simple tool can change how you experience a meal.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I wish I had tried this sooner.

Without doing anything special,
my everyday meal felt noticeably better.

It’s not about convenience.

It’s about improving the quality of everyday life.
